In 1939, at the end of the Spanish Civil War, hundreds of thousands of Spanish Republicans cross the French border to flee the Franco regime. This massive exodus deeply marks the Pyrénées-Orientales.

The term Withdrawal means “retirement” in Spanish. It designates the leak of almost 450 000 Spaniards between January and February 1939.
